An exciting opportunity to join paediatric therapy team, working with a group of specialist neonatal therapists across the trust. • The post holder will provide specialist neurology, developmental and respiratory assessments of infants on the neonatal unit, as well as developing treatment and management plans for these infants. • The post holder will work closely with the multi-disciplinary team to improve service delivery to these patients and their families. • The acute childrens therapy team is a dynamic team made up of physiotherapists, occupational therapists, dietitians, speech and language therapists and play specialists. • The post holder will work closely with the neonatal therapy team including nursing, AHP and medical colleagues. • The physiotherapist will be based on the neonatal unit providing specialist assessments and treatment plans for children on the unit. • The post holder will do a mixture of neurology, development and respiratory care for these children. • There is an expectation to participation in service improve and audit activities relevant to the area of work. Main duties of the job The post holder will work within a large tertiary neonatal unit providing specialist neurological, developmental and respiratory input for infants. Working on the neonatal unit as well as follow-up clinics, the post holder will perform screening, assessments, treatment and support long term management. The post holder will be expected to provide basic respiratory assessment and treatment to the acutely unwell infants on the neonatal critical care, high dependency and special care baby units. They will be supported by the wider respiratory physiotherapy team for complex respiratory management of infants. The physiotherapist will act as a source of expertise in the neurological and respiratory management on neonates. The post holder will liaise with parents / carers, physiotherapy colleagues and other healthcare professionals in relation to patient care. The physiotherapist will act as an advocate for developmental care within the neonatal unit, working collaboratively with the wider multi-disciplinary team to provide education and development. The post holder will support with supervision and education of junior and student physiotherapy staff that work within the paediatric physiotherapy team. They will be expected to work closely with the Physiotherapy Clinical Lead and the other band 7s within the rest of the paediatric physiotherapy team. They will provide supervision and support to the rotational respiratory band 6, junior and students physiotherapists. Person Specification Qualifications Essential • Degree in Physiotherapy • HCPC Registration Desirable • Leadership training • Evidence of Masters level education or equivalent • Membership to appropriate specialist interest groups Experience Essential • Experience of management / supervision of staff • Operational management experience in environment • Experience of leading and implementing service improvement projects Desirable • Working with stakeholders in service delivery / improvement • Working across multiple sites / leading trust wide projects • Experience of writing and policies / guidelines and standard operating procedure documents Knowledge Essential • Knowledge of clinical governance • Knowledge of neonatal conditions and best practice guidance • Knowledge of legal responsibilities of the profession Desirable • Knowledge of risk assessments for self, others, and services
